Capital Campaign

The South Dakota Lions Eye Bank is facing a two-fold challenge.

  • First, due to Sioux Falls area business expansion, we need to move our headquarters by 2010.
  • Secondly, there is an increased demand for eye and tissue transplants and recovery services; therefore a larger facility is needed.
The new facility will provide the Eye Bank staff and recovery technicians the appropriate environment for the procedures and research they perform everyday.

LIONS EYE BANK FACILITY

$2 MILLION

To more fully serve those in need of eye and tissue transplants and to advance the recovery service program, the new 14,000 square facility will provide the following:
  • A safe, ethical and timely service to the donor family and recipient throughout the donation process.
  • A special entrance, garage and a laboratory for donor tissue recovery procedures.
  • Space for the growth of grant projects and eye and tissue research projects
  • Storage for all medical instruments and supplies involved with processing and recovery procedures.
  • Accommodations for Eye Bank departments: Donor Family Call Center, Public Relations/Marketing, Hospital Development, Quality Assurance, Grants, Fundraising, Administration and the Laboratory.
  • Meeting and conference rooms for special events and recovery training.
  • Corneal tissue distribution to local, national and international transplant centers.
  • Bio-hazard, shower and laundry rooms to meet all OSHA safety requirements.

To complete the circle of generosity, a Donor Family Memorial Park will be built on the grounds for transplant recipients to memorialize the eye or tissue donor. This will be a place for visitors and friends to remember the human gift given so others might see or continue to have a full life without pain or injury.
