Become a Donor Today Ten Minute Approach
Nurses/Hospital Staff Donation is a precious gift which touches the lives of those in need and provides comfort to families at a difficult time. Hospital staff play a key role in the donation process. This brochure is designed to help identify the specific steps in your role to ensure JCAHO* and CMS* requirements and most importantly, the needs of the patient and potential donor family are met. Two components which apply directly to your practice are: All deaths need to be referred, regardless of age or cause of death. Remember, the Donation Coordinator is always available to answer questions. 1-800-24-SHARE (1-800-247-4273) What to say to the family when offering the "Sharing your tears of hope...Tissue and eye donation gives new hope " brochure: "Your loved one is a candidate for tissue and/or eye donation. You can speak with a Donation Coordinator before you leave the hospital or the coordinator can call you in the next few hours." If there is documentation of the patient's wishes regarding donation: "Your loved one has documented wishes to be a donor.
