When the Family is Ready to Talk

"Someone from the Lions Eye and Tissue Bank will need to talk with you about your opportunity to Donate Life when you are ready" either:
  • Here at the hospital (please provide a quiet/private place).
  • Or in your home/or wherever you are going from here. If the family would like to leave the hospital, get a phone number where they can be reached so the Donor Coordinator may call them.
When the family is ready to talk with us, please call us back at 800-247-4273 or 605-373-1008. It is very helpful and makes a smoother transition if you could take the time to make introductions.
Karen from the Lion's Eye and Tissue Bank will be able to tell you more about your opportunity to Donate Life.

The Donor Coordinator will explain to the family:
  • What their loved one meets criteria to donate?
  • How the tissues are taken, what the body will look like following donation?
  • What the tissues are used for, how many people will benefit and how the donated gifts will benefit others in need?
  • Complete the informed consent form.
  • Fax necessary paperwork back to you for the medical record.
