Bernice

Hi! My name is Bernice, and in 1998 my world became more clear as the result of a cornea transplant. Thanks to Dr. Hohm, the SD Lions Eye Bank and especially to a donor family, my sight was returned to almost normal.

I had a disease called Fuch's Dystrophy, which meant that my vision was cloudy and distorted. In the spring of 1998 I had a cornea transplant which went very well. In July of 2000 I had cataract surgery, which further improved my vision. I will probably need a transplant in my other eye this fall or early next year.

Thanks to the transplant, I can read, play cards and do crafts better than before. I am also able to enjoy my three grandchildren. Though they live out of town, it's much easier now for me to see their pictures. The gratitude I feel toward Dr. Hohm, the Eye Bank and the donor family that made the transplant possible is inexpressible. They will forever be in my special thoughts and prayers.
