Kaemingk Family

Jason was active in Show Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Marching Band and Concert Band. He was also active in the First Reformed Church Choir. He played piano, guitar, trumpet and tenor saxophone. Jason loved music but most of all he loved he Lord.

On October 30th, 1995 our son Jason died as a result of a head injury received in a car pedestrian accident on October 27th. It is hard to describe the pain, depression and the feeling of loss that our family experienced. It was truly the worst time of our lives. The grieving process takes a long time when you lose a child.

There are many different experiences that helped us in our healing over the past several years.

One of them was our church, family and other friends who were there for us.

We set up the Jason Kaemingk Memorial Scholarships which are scholarships to music camp for High School students. We have scholarships for vocal and instrumental.

One of the most positive things that we did was to donate Jason's organs and tissue, including his corneas.

When we would have a bad day we could still think of the people who were given the gift of life or who were able to increase their quality of life. This was a blessing to us.

When you think of donation you think of the physical healing that happens to the person getting the organ or tissue. For us as the donor family, know that helped us in the psychological healing of Jason's death.

The South Dakota Lions Eye Bank made a video of Jason's life and death and a little baby named Logan Taylor from Rapid City who received one of Jason's Corneas. The video is called 'No Greater Gift.' I remember the first time I saw Logan, the feeling that I had when he looked up at me through that eye was incredible. Wyonne & I show the video and talk about donation and the grief as it relates to losing a child. If you are interested please contact the Eye Bank or us.

The feelings that I have are expressed in, 'A Grace Disguised' by Gerald Sittser.
