Roshal Franken

After I received my cornea transplant I realized no other gift imaginable could ever compare to this! I truly believe there is no greater gift than the gift of sight or life. It amazes me to this day that my donor’s family could be so selfless and giving during such a difficult time.

I am thankful everyday for the new things I am able to do and everything I have learned from this experience. I quit playing sports in high school because my peripheral vision was minimal and I was afraid an accident might cause me to lose vision in my good eye.

I used to get headaches very often because my eyes tired out easily from trying to overcompensate. Each time I drove a car, I was afraid I was putting myself or others in danger. Now that I don’t struggle with blindness my life has completely changed.
RoshalI love playing
intramural sports with my friends and trying to beat my boyfriend in basketball.

I can study until my brain hurts and my eyes don't bother me at all. And, I have faith in my eyes to guide me safely when I drive. Mostly, what this experience has taught me is to never take anything in life for granted.

I know there is nothing I could ever do to repay my donor's family, but my hope is that by advocating to others the importance of donation I can help people to understand this wonderful cause.

Blessings to my Donor Family
